Established in 1928, the Child Protection Society of Ceylon Inc. is one of the oldest orphanages in Sri Lanka, providing care and support to children across the country.

WHO WE ARE

The Child Protection Society of Ceylon Inc. is one of the oldest orphanages in the country. Based in Rukmale, Pannipitiya, the Society serves children from across Sri Lanka.

Our work includes education, healthcare, counseling, vocational training, shelter and food, providing children in our care with a range of essential support.

Objects of the Society

Our work is shaped by a clear set of commitments focused on the protection, care and future of children.

Prevent cruelty

To prevent cruelty to Children.

Prevent neglect

To prevent neglect of Children.

Protect children from exploitation

To prevent the exploitation of Child Labour.

Rescue and shield

To rescue Children from immoral surroundings and to shield them from immoral contamination.

Secure new guardians

To secure suitable new guardians for Children who have been deprived of their natural guardians or who should be removed from them in the interest of humanity.

Stimulate public opinion

To stimulate public opinion and to make the community increasingly sensitive to forms of abuse that exist, but of which the evil results are not fully appreciated.

Assist law enforcement

To assist in the enforcement of the laws affecting Children.

Secure equitable justice

To secure fair and equitable administration of justice as regards the rights of Children and enforcement of the law affecting them.

Watch proposed legislation

To watch all projected legislation in any way bearing on the interests of Children and to secure as far as practicable that the principals involved therein shall be fair and equitable alike to Children and the public.

Identify legislative deficiencies

To point out to Government any deficiencies in the existing legislation affecting Children, which may come to the notice of the Society.

Promote legal and legislative action

To apply for and promote any ordinance, order or other legislative or legal sanction either in Sri Lanka or elsewhere to enable the Society to carry any of its objects into effect for effecting any modification and to enter into arrangements with any Government or other Authorities, Supreme, Municipal, Local or otherwise and to obtain from any such Government or Authority all rights, concessions and privileges that may seem conducive to the Society’s objects or any of them.

Establish homes and institutions

To establish, maintain and to conduct homes, school or other institutions and other premises and conveniences for the use of Children and purchase, to take on lease or in exchange hire or otherwise dispose of or deal with any property and any rights or privileges which the Society may think necessary or convenient for the carrying out of its objects.

The Child Protection Society of Ceylon Inc. was established in 1928 and has continued its work of caring for children for nearly a century.

Continuing Our Work

Today, the Society provides care and support to children from across Sri Lanka. On average, around 24 children are in our care, covering the age groups of 6-12 and 13-18.
